Hotel Chief Engineer - The Prince Akatoki Guangzhou, China

The Prince Akatoki, Guangzhou is our exciting, brand new, soon to open 5-star hotel brand reflecting touches of Japanese refined hospitality and culture.

We are searching for a Chief Engineer with previous Hotel Pre Opening experience to set up this incredible tech focused hotel. The 275 guest rooms will feature smart devices & intuitive technology, delivering a unique, modern guest experience.  Previous experience in a similar smart-tech focused environment would therefore be highly regarded. 

The Chief Engineer is responsible for the setting up and successful and efficient management of the Engineering Department. Responsibilities include the sourcing, evaluating, installation, and training of cost effective and streamlined systems and equipment, and their maintenance.

   Accountabilities

  • Take responsible for the general maintenance of the building facilities, mechanical and electrical equipment and plant rooms in Hotel
  • Oversee preventive maintenance, repairs and servicing
  • Keep the Management informed on all matters regarding the maintenance management of the property and any changes of relevant regulations
  • Ensure that documents, records and architectural, structural and M&E drawings are properly kept and maintained
  • Arrange for the selection and recruitment of supporting staff as required
  • Provide technical support and advice to any other department
  • Prepare contract documents for the servicing and maintenance of term contracts, improvement and repair works and invite quotations and tenders. Process quotation and tender submissions
  • Conduct feasibility studies for upgrading and/or retrofitting of works, and undertake retrofitting and new development projects
  • Keep inventory of the building maintenance tools, equipment, machinery, and spares
  • Conduct regular energy audits as part of an effective energy conservation program
  • Maintain accounting procedures and systems to ensure accurate payment to term contractors, suppliers and ad hoc service providers

 

Pre Opening Management

  • Apply for all necessary government licences, certificates and/or approvals including statutory inspection certificates in respect of retrofitting, lifts, fire protection system, generators, air conditioning and mechanical ventilation, pumps and ejectors, etc
  • Prepare the annual operating budget for the maintenance of the common areas and services in the building
  • Take responsibility for all pre opening Engineering issues
  • Prepare Standard Operating Procedures for Engineering
  • Participate in staff induction and pre opening training as required

 Departmental Planning

  • Prepare, monitor and manage the departmental budget
  • Prepare and update standard operating procedures, implement and monitor
  • Attend Hotel and SWH meetings and any other management meetings as requested by executives and contribute to the overall management and success of the Hotel

Training and Development

  • In cooperation with the Director of HR and StayWell Global HR and Training Manager - develop Engineering training modules for all systems and equipment training requirements
  • Assess the training and update training modules as required due to system or equipment changes and training needs
  • Attend training programs as requested by the General Manager, the Director of Rooms, or the Human Resources Department

Reporting

  • Prepare and submit all reports as required by Hotel Management and SWH in a timely fashion
  • Report on all training issues to the General Manager and Director of HR, the Director of Rooms and the Global HR and Training Manager

  • Set up, monitor, and improve work systems that are safe and sustainable
  • Deal with all reporting of unsafe working conditions and ensure the issues are solved as fast and efficient as possible
  • Always use safe work practices and act as a role model for other employees
